Tea House Project
Updated: Feb 8, 2023

I actually started this project months ago. After finishing my final major project at university, my friends and I wanted to start another project without a deadline. I created a detailed brief for this and decided on a theme, which was tea.
I got permission from the original concept artist to make a 3D replica of their art and once they gave me the go-ahead, I started blocking out in blender!
The concept art is Spill The Tea HOUSE by Tiphaine on ArtStation
With the blockout, I was able to establish the scale and composition of all of the pieces.

I then started to sculpt the rocks that the houses were on top of. I used ZBrush for the sculpting. Sculpting the rocks took me a while to get correctly because I was having trouble making it look more like it did in the original concept art.
I shaped the rocks with the move tool as well as the trim dynamic brush.
I had to do a lot of revisions and re-sculpting as the rocks didn't really resemble the reference. In the end, to not drag it out any longer, I moved on.

After sculpting the rocks, I sculpted the teapot!

I used a mask to get the circular detail on the teapot then I used the standard brush to paint over and extrude the masked areas.
I used the same method for the little detail inside the circle.
I used the layer brush to get some broken bits on the teapot top, and further refined this with the trim dynamic brush and the orb clay brush.

After the teapot, I started sculpting the trees! This was actually the part I was worried about the most because of how complicated the tree on the right looked.
I brushes I mainly used were: the move brush, standard brush, trim dynamic brush, orb clay tubes brush and smooth brush.

I think I had the most fun sculpting the tree puffs. (I call them puffs because they look like steam coming out of the tea).
For some of the smaller details, I decided to add them in as textures on a plane.

I then started to detail the little houses.
I haven't finished this project yet. My plan for the next steps are to finish sculpting all the details, then I'll start to create the low-poly models for everything.
I'm very excited to continue working on this!
